Introduction |
|
CEOU, Center for the Exploration of the Origin of the Universe, was established on 2008 June 1, as one of two research projects approved in the 2008A semester as a part of the Creative Research Initiative program of the Ministry of Education, and Science and Technology (MEST) of the Korean government. The Creative Research Initiative program supports fixed-term research centers, and CEOU will be supported until 2017 for a duration of 9 years, with external reviews every three years. The research objective of CEOU is to broaden humanity's understanding of the universe by exploring the uncharted epoch in the history of the universe where the first generation of objects formed. By developing innovative instruments and performing a unique NIR imaging survey, we discover and study these first objects such as quasars, and understand their subsequent evolution processes into massive galaxies in clusters and super-massive black holes - one of the most intriguing yet unsolved problems in astronomy.
