   Introduction

CEOU, Center for the Exploration of the Origin of the Universe, was established in 2009 June 1, as one of two research projects approved in 2009A semester as a part of the Creative Research Initiative program of the Ministry of Education, and Science and Technology (MEST) of Korea government. The Creative Research Initiative program supports fixed-term reseach centers, and CEOU will be supported until 2018 for the duration of 9 years barring extrenal reviews every three year.

The research objective of CEOU to broaden the humanity's understanding of the universe by exploring the uncharted epoch of the history of the universe where the first generation of objects formed. By developing innovative instruments and performing a unique NIR imaging survey, we will discover and study the first objects such as quasars, and understand their subsequent evolution processes into massive galaxies in clusters and super-massive black holes - one of the most intriguing yet unsolved problems in astronomy.
